H. Aldervan Daly, CFRE, is a nonprofit strategist, educator, and advocate known for combining
data-driven methods with a deep respect for donor relationships. With over three decades of
experience in development and marketing, Aldervan helps mission-focused organizations create
fundraising programs that support both financial objectives and the well-being of the individuals
behind every gift.
He leads H. Aldervan Daly & Associates, working with clients across the US on issues ranging
from Individual Mail, Leadership, and Trauma-Informed counseling. He is also the founder of
The Thoughtful Approach To…, a blog and platform dedicated to sharing insights on donor-
centric fundraising, trauma-informed practices, and sustainable development strategies. An
accredited Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), Aldervan believes that technology and
empathy can—and should—coexist at the center of effective philanthropy.
Aldervan frequently speaks and writes about fundraisers, helping professionals, and discusses
how the demands of the sector can affect mental health and retention. He co-presented “Trauma-
Informed Fundraising: The Fundraiser and the Donor” at the AFP International Conference
2026, led webinars, and wrote blog posts and articles for the Association of Fundraising
Professionals. Aldervan contributed to the AFP-NYC Chapter, exploring burnout and resilience
in the field in one of their weekly blog posts.
He holds an MFA in Development and Marketing from Virginia Tech and a BA from Rhodes
College. A graduate of McKinsey’s Black Leadership Executive Program, he also serves on the
Global Board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Based in Brooklyn with his husband and son, Aldervan is dedicated to fostering fair and open
fundraising cultures. When he's not working, he’s a data enthusiast, a part-time saloon singer,
and a passionate advocate for the power of generosity to change communities
